My Workout Routine

My daily workouts were very well taken care of during my high school days when I had my Chinese Cultural Dance classes every other day after school and my Latin Dance lessons once a week. I was always, ALWAYS looking forward to my dance classes because I love dancing so much, it's the time I really get to be myself and express my emotions in a physical form, plus I would be sweating so much, dehydration was a serious issue. I don't mean to self praise here but people do say that I become a totally different and more confident person whenever I dance, maybe because I know I'm good at it, and even if I'm not, nobody in the classroom will judge, we're all there to learn! But ever since I stopped attending classes once and for all due to commuting issues, I couldn't find another type of exercise to replace dancing and I truly believe there's none out there I would like more than dancing. My body was getting used to the stillness, it has become less flexible, less toned, and everything just felt flabby even when my friends tell me I look fine, truth is, I don't feel fine.

Gym membership will never be on my list because I hate all the machineries and it's just so not very fun, if you know what I mean, hence I opt for Yoga classes. I was always looking forward to attending the classes because my instructor was also a fellow Korean, she is a petite-framed, middle-aged lady with the most adorable Korean accent which seemed to bright up my day every time I hear it. My Yogi days lasted approximately a year and it too had to stop when I moved all the way to the other side of town.

When I was looking for another method to at least maintain my health and shape, I discovered the glory of Youtube, and that's how I found Blogilates.

Cassey, the mastermind of Blogilates, introduced me to Pilates, HIIT and also the basic knowledge of fitness and nutrition. Her positive and everlasting energy is so intriguing you can't help but to answer her every single time when she asks, "what's the colour of your nails today?", even though when you know you are just talking to a screen and she can't actually hear you, but her smile and attention for you seem to say otherwise. I was so dedicated to the workout that I even followed her monthly workout calendar and had visible results in as early as 2 weeks, which wasn't difficult at all given that all Blogilates videos are made with such fun and creativity. Cassey plays the role of the aggressive but smiley, perfect-haired but down to earth, determined, restless, virtual personal coach in my life, and I loved it.

(Tummy area significantly leaner than the month before)

Sadly but truly, I found it more and more difficult to keep up due to my job and the way it all became sort of a routine. The aggressiveness of the Blogilates videos are great because it really helps push me to my limit but eventually took a toll on me because it affected my moods to be equally as feisty. So, for some reason, I was reminded of my Yogi days again and as exaggerating as it sounds, a lightbulb lit on top of my head and I went, "yes! that's what I'm gonna do!".

Went to Youtube again and searched for channels dedicated to Yoga, and I found Yoga with Adriene. Her soothing, tame and cool energy unties my knots accumulated after a long day at work, not to mention her voice which is perfect for a Yoga instructor. I like working out with her because you don't feel pressured into perfecting every single move, you can feel free to take a break if you need to, the most important thing is to listen to your body. I only got into her "Yoga for Weight Loss" series for less than a week so I can't say much about it now, but it's looking great so far and has definitely filled me with a more easy-going and relaxed energy.

I definitely will be alternating between these two and probably more along the way, because seriously Youtube is one of the best inventions there is,  as it opens up the world to you in every possible way.
